people have died, several people wounded in explosion that has taken place outside the u.s. embassy in ankara, turkey. chris lawrence joins us from the pentagon. >> reporter: good morning, soledad. not much information right now. turkey authorities are responding to that scene, trying to collect more information. the blast happened just a short while ago, some. news reports out of that area, saw a big flash, heard a big bang. reports of several people wounded near a side gate of the embassy. we're waiting for more information, the u.s., of course, has two major air bases in turkey no, where near the capit capital. soledad. >> thank you, chris, for watching this story. >>> also, we told you just moments ago, the former new york city mayor ed koch has died. he passed away from congestive heart failure. he had really problems with his health over the last many years. mayor koch elected in 1977. he was a judge on the people's court, and he had been hospitalized recent well fluid on his lungs. moved to intensive care yesterday. he was 88 years old. richard socaridies joins us. writer for

north korea's nuclear weapons and bollistic missile programs constitute a threat to u.s. national security and to international peace and security. and he continued the u.s. remains vigilant in the face of north korean provocations and steadfast in our defense commitments to allies in the region. obviously ther obvious obviously, there is grave concern. the north koreans are saying they have a different type of weapon, more sophisticated, more powerful. what is happening right now is that the u.s. and international organizations are monitoring what they -- what they can from this test. they are sending the united states, sending planes aloft and what they do, they have sensors on them, and they try to sniff the air in a way and figure out exactly what kind of explosion that was. because there are a couple of different types of explosions, and depending on that, we could find out how much they can do of testing in the future and perhaps create a bomb. soledad. >> jill dougherty, thank you, jill. ahead, we'll talk to gordon chang, author of "nuclear showdown." we'll discuss that, st

, according to the u.s. coast guard they're probably less than 50 miles away from mobile right now. that might sound pretty close, but it's probably going to feel like an eternity before they get here. there was a flurry of activity last night with helicopters delivering new supplies to the ship and some new generators, so that sort of implies that they might have some means to have more electricity on board and everyone to have perhaps more food and more water before they get here. but once they do arrive here, that's when things are going to start moving relatively quickly for the 3100 passengers on board. here the plans have already been made to have buses waiting for them to take them back to their cars in galveston, texas, so they can drive right home tonight if they want to or they can take them to a hotel where you can bet there will be plenty of people anxious to get to that first hot shower they have had in quite some time. you think about this, soledad, this ship was supposed to arrive in galveston, texas, on sunday. they're now 500 miles off course and five days overdue. >> or they

.73 across the country. this particular gas station, gas prices are a lot higher, 4.15. as i mentioned, u.s. national average, 3.73. in hawaii, california, higher still, the most expensive place to buy gas right now. 4.28. california not far behind. the cheapest place to buy gas, in wyoming, 3.17. as you mentioned, americans right now spending a lot more money on heating bills, that, of course, means they don't have much money to spare in terms of gas prices, also, we've got taxes going up for a lot of americans. a lot of people seeing paychecks shrink. some taxi drivers, saying they are spending upward of 40, $50, $60 per day. it really is having a huge effect on people. >> what a big mess. thanks, zain appreciate that. >>> jennifer delgado in the weather center this morning with a freeze warning that could spell some serious trouble for florida citrus crops. good morning. >> hi, soledad. the sunshine state needs the sun to come out. temperatures right now still in the mid 20s. we have a hard freeze warning in place anywhere in blue. of course, this is affecting northern and central parts
